Last year Holly + Garth booked me for a maternity session. Not long after, Holly reached out asking if I would also photograph their wedding. Immediately, I said yes! I loved how relaxed H + G were throughout the whole day. Nothing was an issue and they really embraced the day as it came. You wouldn’t be able to tell but mid ceremony, it started raining. Within 5 seconds, it started down pouring. Within a minute, it started hailing. Their day had all four seasons within a couple hours, including sunshine! As we all rushed to get under cover, we continued their ceremony – H + G shared their vows and just as they sealed their love with a signature, the skies dried up. We ventured out to the ceremony space where H + G had their first kiss and walked down the aisle as all of their loved ones celebrated them. We pivoted plans, came up with new ones and continued to celebrate in the best way.
H + G had their wedding in the backyard of a family home, way up on a hill in Fairlie, New Zealand. Their simple yet elegant backyard wedding was so dreamy. I loved how they used florals as money pieces around the property. I truly believe if you want to be minimalistic with decor, florals do just the trick to fill out a space, giving off such an elegant feel to your wedding day. With a white marquee, bows tied around the chairs and table settings, they were able to create a reception space that felt luxurious without the price tag. To say the least, it was an honour documenting H + G wedding day and loved getting to know both families, friends and sharing laughs with one another.
