5 Tips to Help You Ease Anxiety Before Your Couples Photoshoot

1. Treat the the evening as a date night.

If it’s the day of your photoshoot and you’re really feeling the anxiety creep up onto you, I want you to do your best to have a wholesome day with your partner. Treat the evening as a date night or even the whole day!

AND just a tip **please please leave any disagreements + annoyances towards your partner at home! Really be easy on each other on your photoshoot day. Having an argument on the day is the worst thing you can do! You will get more anxious about the session and I’ll be able to feel your guys’ tension. You won’t be able to open up and let loose like I know you can! SO, if something happens on the day of, put it to the back of your mind for the evening, or the next day. Your couples session might even make you realize it wasn’t that big of a deal and you still love your partner endlessly!

Try to transition those nerves into excitement. If you have your photoshoot booked early in the evening, make a reservation at your favourite restaurant for after the photoshoot. That way you won’t ONLY be thinking about your session but also really excited to have dinner with your partner after. If your photoshoot is in the morning/afternoon, make plans to spend the day outside afterwards. Go to your favorite beach, on a hike, to brunch – treat yourself to a mimosa or bloody mary. Do something you guys love to do as a couple together.

2. Have a drink.

If you’re one to have a few bevvys every so often, I recommend before the photoshoot to be the time to do so! But please don’t show up drunk! that would not be good haha have one or two to take the edge off. Get a little silly with your partner, let loose and just have some fun! During the photoshoot you’ll be walking, running, doing random activities that will feel SO goofy but that’s the point. Photographers want you to be in the moment laughing with your favorite person so if a few drinks helps loosen you up, then I approve!!

3. Incorporate an activity into your photoshoot.

Being busy with an activity almost always distracts us from our nervous system. So why not incorporate one into your photoshoot??

What do you love to do? Skateboard? Swim? Hike? Eat pizza? Ice cream?

We can do anything during your time with me! What I love about photography is that it’s more than just photos of you and your partner smiling at the camera. It’s storytelling. It’s getting all the in between moments of you two interacting, laughing, kissing. This is all about you two and the moments and things you cherish as a couple together.

4. Dress comfortably + like you.

How many times have you bought a new outfit for an occasion and you spend the whole night sucking in, pulling down your dress, putting the strap back on your shoulder and it becomes more of an annoyance than feeling cute? I’ve done it SO many times and I always feel sooo uncomfy and my confidence lowers.

Make sure you’re dressing comfy and LIKE YOU for your session! This isn’t the time to try a new style out because what if you end up hating it? You want to feel like yourself during your photoshoot. You’ll be moving around a lot so you want to feel comfortable no matter what position you’re in. Wear those baggy jeans and your favorite oversized sweater. Don’t feel like you have to dress up. Of course, if a more classy style is what you’re going for, then yes wear that! I just want you to feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself xx

5. Get to know your photographer.

Us photographers love getting to know our couples. We know photoshoots are super intimate and personal, so we always make the effort to become as close as friends as possible. Of course, that is a two way street though! You have to want to get to know us as much as we want to get to know you. Take the time to talk to your photographer, open up about how you’re feeling with the photoshoot, and interact with them on social media. If you’ve booked a session with me, you’ll receive a questionnaire that allows me to get to know both you + your partner. Be as descriptive as possible! The more I know about you the more personal connections I can make which opens up space for us to become friends and familiar with one another.

I really hope these five tips helped ease any stress you’ve been feeling about your photoshoot. Most importantly, just know that YOU WILL have fun! And really understand that you won’t be standing staring at the camera the whole time. We’ll be laughing, making jokes and the time will fly by!

If you have any questions about what you can expect from a photoshoot with me, please reach out!! Send me an email, DM, inquire through my website. I’m happy to talk with you about anything you’re unsure about.

Thank you soo much for reading through!

Lots of love,
