Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park Winter Wonderland | Courtney + Ian

Courtney + Ian were visiting New Zealand from Australia and booked me as their photographer to remember their time in New Zealand together. They chose Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park seeing as it’s such an iconic New Zealand location fully immersed in the mountains. I honestly couldn’t think of a better location for them! They don’t see snow often, so as we both drove into Mount Cook we were soooo surprised to see HOW MUCH snow was on the ground!

I actually had a different location for us to meet at but the parking space was FULL of snow and it wouldn’t have been safe for us to park there. Thankfully I arrived early so I had about 15 minutes to find a new spot for us.

I knew the Tasman Valley road had beautiful views, so I headed there only to find out the road was CLOSED. I wasn’t stressing tooo much (OK maybe a little), but I had about 5 minutes at this point. There was a space at the beginning of the turn off where we could both park our cars. Seeing as the road was closed, I knew no other cars would need to exit or get through. So I told them the spot, we both parked up and we walked into the fluffiest snow for their couples session.

This is one of MANY reasons why I love Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park so much. You never know what you’re going to get! I’ve photographed in Mount Cook on overcast days, windy days, both sunshine and cloud, sunny days, snowy days. Everything you can think of!

I’m based in Twizel, about 45 minutes away from Mount Cook. The morning of the session, Twizel and the road leading into Mount Cook was FULL of fog. I really didn’t expect we would see the mountains at their session or even a blue sky!!

Aoraki/Mount Cook is a world of it’s own, weather changing often but never for the worse!

Here’s a collection of some of my favourite colour and black + white photos from Courtney + Ian’s Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park couples session.

AORAKI/MOUNT COOK COUPLES PHOTOGRAPHER

If you’re looking for a mountain loving photographer for your Aoraki/Mount Cook couples session, you’re right where you should be! The mountains spark a creativity in me like no other. I love being around them and I feel when I am, I create my most proud artwork. I photograph couples, weddings + elopements all over the South Island of New Zealand. I’m based in Twizel and tend to cover the South Canterbury and Otago regions. If you’re loving my style + vibe of photography, you can learn more about me here; then check out my mount cook photography packages.
